Threads of Fate looks incredible, Im suprised i havent heard of it before. I want to get it sometime for sure

I've been spoiled by starting with non-random RPGs (Mario RPG, Earthbound and Chrono Trigger). I never got into Pokemon as a kid (though had Metal Walker and didn't like the random encounters). However after finishing the first Golden Sun, I would like to go back and give Final Fantasy VI and Dragon Quest III a chance!

Fear Effect wasn't really using cel-shading. The characters aren't shaded at all, but they are drawn in a way to simulate that look. Jet Set Radio is still credited as the first cel-shaded video game.

FF9s characters look weird to me, almost like they are dolls or more child like than they should be. Its nice to finally hear someone else who felt the same thing I did when I played it lol.

Still have my PS1 copy. Love this game. The intro left an impression on me as a kid.

To play ANY of these games today would be like reading the dictionary for entertainment......

Ys is series I need to try oneday. Maybe Ys6 can be good choice for a 1st in series.

I'd like to add Breath of Fire: Dragon Quarter to this list. An acquired taste for sure (lets just pretend that Breath of Fire part of the title doesn't exist so fans of the series don't have to judge it against their expectations) but it is a very short quest, with the main characters life force stuck to a counter that constantly ticks down. And you unlock extra areas and cutscenes each time you finish it, so there's more if you want it.

Am I the only one that thinks Chrono Trigger action-timing puzzles are too frustrating and has no place in an RPG?

I just downloaded Wild Arms one and two..didn't even know there was three, four, and five!

I'm sorry- Suikoden respects your time? It makes you reform/re-equip your party every half hour, makes you wander around an empty castle searching for the arbitrary flag that will allow you to progress, and has those malformed, tedious excuse for Fire Emblem battle sequences. It's not a good time.

God, I adored Threads of Fate when I was a kid.

Awwwwwww kitty at the end is so cute! Anyway, the spammy voices during battles wore thin later on when one of the characters keeps yelling “Hillary” every five seconds. Other than that I love SO2ndS. My sister also loved the game because of the crafting. She likes making bad food.

In this day and age a game without a sequel is a commendable achievement.

I love chrono trigger, SNES is goated version, but the greatest versoon of the game for me is the DS 😁

legend of dragoon dont need sequel becoz it ended beautifully, what it need is prequel especially set in the dragon campaign era or Rose's personal crusade...

Chrono Trigger really is that good. And I agree that despite a few mistranslations (relevant to the story/events), it feels the most charming. The only exception to the time is the rom hack 'Schala Edition' which does change the translation, but does a lot of QoL updates and adds in an entirely new section in 12,000 BC where you save Schala after the Ocean Palace disaster.
